North Allegheny School District | McKnight Elementary
North Allegheny School District hired Massaro in 2018 to provide CM services for the McKnight Elementary School. This project was a renovation of all existing building spaces and a small addition to house new art rooms and created a captured courtyard within the building.
The renovations were extensive and involved new mechanical systems, roofing, windows, interior finishes, and in some areas of the building, replacement of all partition walls. A new elevator and elevator shaft within the existing building was also included. This work started in spring of 2019 and completed in fall 2020.
Due to the amount of planned work it was not possible to limit renovations to the summer months, therefore Massaro worked with the school to generate a detailed phasing plan to work in the building during the school year while providing enough space for regular building operations to proceed without interruption.
This project was managed through the start of the Covid19 Pandemic. In March of 2020 this project was shut down along with all construction in the State. In coordination with NASD this project was petitioned to be classified as an “essential” project. Within 2 weeks of the shut down the project was back to work under modified protocols. Massaro managed this major project change, balancing the new constraints to ultimately maintain the original desired completion date.
